Honoring World AIDS Day by da-AL

Since 1988, each December 1st, people worldwide show their support to end HIV, both as a disease and as a stigma. We pay our respects to those who’s lives have been cut short by it, and to those who live with it.

HIV is the second leading cause of death among adolescents globally and the No. 1 cause of death among adolescents in Africa. Adolescent girls and young women are particularly vulnerable, accounting for a startling 91% of new HIV infections among people aged 15-19 in sub-Saharan Africa, whereas young men in the same age group represent roughly 11%. (from KITV Honolulu)

I urge everyone to read the posts about AIDS by my good friend, David Hunt, here and here, as well as those of Gay in the 80s.

Here I describe some of my first impressions of AIDS.

Google World AIDS Day to check out how your town is honoring the event.

  1. What I find truly horrific is that new cases CAN be prevented, just by being careful and get your self educated. So good for you Daal to bring this under the attention of readers on a regular base!
